This cocktail actually ties in with the episode we’re watching today, because not only is it called the “Chaos,” but it is opalescent green just like one of the monsters in today’s show. Or it would be, except it isn’t. Because of the bitters. The TRUE original “Chaos” is a martini-style cocktail was invented in the 2014 by Walter Nisi while working the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in the train’s bar car called “3674.” But I didn’t like it. I felt it was far too heavy on the Green Chartreuse, which is an extremely loud flavor, and it overpowered the drink. So I basically altered it to the point where it’s no longer his drink, though obviously inspired by it. I’ll put a link on our website to the original, or you can Google Walter Nisi Chaos cocktail. So we’re calling this version:

THE KUP CHAOS COCKTAIL

·         1 ½ oz. (45 ml) gin

·         ¼ oz. (7 ml) dry vermouth

·         ¼ oz. Green Chartreuse

·         1 drop Angostura bitters

·         1 drop Peychaud’s bitters

·         1 drop orange bitters

o   You can go just one drop Ango if you don’t have the last 2, or just Ango and orange

o   Fill a mixing glass with ice and stir all ingredients together for 30 seconds

o   Strain into a chilled coupe

o   Garnish with a lemon twist

You know how humble I like to be, but I really did not like the original cocktail and I love this version. It is super bright, the chartreuse is an herbal, vital flavor without completely blowing out the drink. I’m not saying I could be the bar manager on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, but I’ll allow the audience to say it.
