This is a Hot Buttered Rum from page #60 of Jigger, Beaker, and Glass. I quality tested this cocktail a few times because I found the way it was described in the original text, it was very one-note. I was basically just getting rum. Mainly they used whole cloves and added the butter at the end with no muddling. I find this method creates a much more complex, blended experience. You’re welcome. I did that testing for YOU. This recipe sounds complex but it really isn’t. And you can mix and match and play with any seasonal aromatics you like.
**·         1 ½ tsp brown sugar**
**·         1 twist lemon peel**
**·         1 ½ tsp lemon juice**
**·         ½ tsp ground cloves**
**·         ¼ tsp ground nutmeg**
**·         2 tsp butter**
**·         1 oz. (30 ml) dark rum (Gosling’s Black Seal)**
**·         1 oz. (30 ml) aged rum (Cruzan Aged Rum)**
**·         3 oz. (90 ml) very hot water (I used an electric kettle; you don’t want it actually boiling)**
**·         1 cinnamon stick**
**o   Muddle brown sugar, lemon peel, lemon juice, cloves, nutmeg, and butter in a heat-resistant glass**
**o   Add rum**
**o   Fill with hot water**
**o   Stir with cinnamon stick**
**o   Garnish with more ground nutmeg to taste**
